A container tank is a transport facility intended for safe
domestic and international transportation of goods by road, by rail and by sea (river)
and storage at a consignee of liquid safe and hazardous cargoes. The container
tank complies with the provisions of the International Convention on Safe
Containers and with those of the
Customs Convention on Containers.
The stock of container tanks possessed by OVZ-Trans JLLC is generated of the cargoes manufactured by Osipovichi Carriage Works JV CJSC under the design documentation for models Т11 and Т14 developed by Metalcomposit Research and Development Center LLC (the Russian Federation) and "SURETANK LTD" (Ireland) - for type T50.
The certification body is the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping FAI.
In respect to their weight and dimensions the container tanks are complying with the requirements of Standard ISO 668:1995, have dimension 1CC; they are designed and tested to resist load as per the requirements of Standards ISO 1496-3:1995 and GOST 31314.3-2006. According to the classification of transported containers adopted by UN the container tanks are qualified as the containers meeting the requirements of UNT instructions
The containers have a solid structure procuring their multiple utilization; they are equipped with elbow fittings used for loading, unloading, decking and fastening. A container tank is composed of a tank equipped with loading/unloading valves for effecting loading/unloading operations under pressure and by force of gravity, a frame (bents) equipped with elbow fittings used for loading, unloading, decking and fastening of a container. A tank is a welded vessel composed of a cylindrical sidewall and two elliptic or torispherical bottoms. The tank elements are interconnected by end joints with full weld penetration by means of electric welding.
The tank is secured to the end frame by means of hip jacks and sidewalls. For procuring container toughness under external excessive pressure structural rings are welded to its external surface (in models Т11 and Т14). The tank is equipped with a manhole hatch of 500 mm diameter (in the clear) located in the top part of a cylindrical sidewall (in models Т11 and Т14) or from the side of the end frame (in Т50 models).
The end frames (the
front and back ones) are welded assemblies composed of vertical diaphragm, top
and lower cross arms, a supporting ring, reinforcing plates, detents of tank
hip jacks and bed plates.
The frame elements are manufactured of low-alloyed steel: 09Г2С strength index 45 GOST 19281-89, P355NL1, P355NL2 EN 10028, S355MLH EN 10219-1 or S355J2H according to EN 10210.
The frame legs are
connected with jigs by means of top and lower elbow fittings intended for
loading/unloading operations with a container, for fastening a container onto carrier
vehicles and for interconnecting containers when decking thereof. The form and
dimensions of elbow fittings are complying with Standards ISO1161:1984 and GOST
A container is lifted by the top elbow fittings by suspensions made in the form of a yoke equipped with tilting locking devices, or suspensions with slings with hooks connected thereto, or by lower elbow fittings equipped with rigging slings with hooks.
The container tanks of the stock possessed by
OVZ-Trans JLLC allow to transport edible cargoes, bulk liquid chemical
hazardous and safe cargoes, uncooled condensed gases. With a brief list of
goods transported in the containers of the stock possessed by OVZ-Trans JLLC
one can familiarize himself/herself in the references given below.

A tank filling degree is determined in accordance with the requirements set out in Clause 220.127.116.11 with due account of special-purpose provisions specified in Column 14 of Chapter 3.2 and Clause 18.104.22.168 of IMDG Code.
A maximum product density at 15°Сand filling by 80% of a total capacity of a container should not exceed 1.59 kg/l that is corresponding to loading a container up to a maximum permissible gross weight equal to 36000 kg.

Containers may be transported on railway platforms, decks and in cargo holds of vessels, by road.
Containers are falling within the gauge of goods according
to the Specification of cargo load and fastening conditions, ICS, within gauge
of rolling stock according to Standard GOST 9238-83, which procures their
transportation by rail of CIS countries and further.
The disposition and fastening of containers on rolling stock are done in accordance with the requirements of the Specification of cargo disposition and fastening (Annex 3 to the Agreement of International Goods Transport by Rail).
A container is designed and tested in accordance with Standard
ISO 1496-3:1995 and is suitable for transporting it by marine vessels both in costwise
and long trips. Containers are transported by vessels of “river-sea “ type in
accordance with the requirements of
“The Regulations on transporting containers by sea”
and the National “Regulations on marine transportation of hazardous goods, DDD
31.15.01-89», “The Technical requirements to disposition and fastening of
containers in accordance with international standards by vessels meant for
transporting thereof” (the Russian Register of Shipping), IMDG Code.
Overseas transportation of containers are effected on
decks of vessels of both of a regular type and on decks and in container bays
of special-purpose vessels (container carrying ships)
Containers are allowed to be stacked on decks of vessels in layers not exceeding three from top to bottom. In all cases a weight of top containers should not exceed 192 000 kg. When installing and fastening containers on decks of vessels, selecting fastening facilities and carrying out engineering supervision one should be guided by “The Technical requirements to disposition and fastening of containers in accordance with international standards by vessels meant for transporting thereof” (the Russian Register of Shipping), as well as by recommendations set out in Section 9.2 of Standard ISO 3874:1997. For fastening containers there should be used factory fabricated fastening facilities, manufactured and tested in accordance with relevant Technical requirements.
Goods are transported by road in accordance with “The
Regulations of transporting goods by road”
When conveying containers across general use roads there are used container carrier vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers equipped with the facilities for fastening containers with lower elbow fittings in accordance with the requirements of Clause 9.3.3 of Standard ISO 3874:1997: twist locks, guide cones or guide angles equipped with container fixers (studs for tightening twist lock heads, filling catch pins). When conveying containers within a terminal territory at low speed and for limited distances it is allowed to install container on guide angles without its extra fixing. The personnel attending such facilities should be specially trained. When conveying containers filled with the 3rd hazard class cargo an exhaust tube should be in the lower part of a trailer.
Storage conditions for containers are in
accordance with Standard GOST 15150-69. Containers should be stored on grounds
with asphalt covering with transverse direction inclination not exceeding 0,03
%. A ground should be equipped with the facilities for disposing of rainwater
and ice water. When storing a container should rest on fittings only. When
preparing containers for extended storage they should be subject to preventive
Containers should be lifted by means of top elbow
Top elbow fittings are major mounting points when
lifting containers. The rotating locking gears on the pickup mechanism gripping
frame (a spreader unit) should exactly index the holes in the elbow fittings.
Lifting of a loaded container by means of top elbow
fittings in accordance with the requirements of Clause 6.2 of Standard ISO
3874:1997 should be done using a spreader unit only.
The provisions of Clause 6.3 of Standard ISO 3874:1997 require that empty containers should be lifted by means of top elbow fittings with hooks or brackets mounted on a special cross member.
When lifting a container by means of top elbow fittings attached to a cross member forces should be applied vertically and there should be secured reliable strapping by means of all fittings. Lifting by means of lower elbow fittings.
When lifting a container by means of low elbow fittings a hoisting tackle is set up in side outlets of four lower fittings and at that hoisting facilities or slings should not contact a container, a distance between a fitting profile plane and force direction should not exceed 38 mm.
An angle between slings and a isohyps should be at least 45O. The use of forklifts when performing handling operations with container tanks is PROHIBITED.
Decking of containers is done on special grounds and
deck s of vessels. When decking containers on grounds one should be guided by the
recommendations of Section 8 of Standard ISO 3874:1997, and decking and
fastening containers on decks of vessels – by the recommendations of Section
9.2 of the above Standard ISO 3874:1997. When decking containers they should be
installed by fittings on fittings biased lengthwise not exceeding 38 mm, edgewise
– not exceeding 25 mm.
A weight of top containers should not exceed 192000 kg.
Sealing is done at loading (unloading) points. In Т11
model the following container units are to be lead sealed:
- Covers of cable compartments in a container top part;
- A cover of a lower cable compartment;
In Т14 model the following container units are to be lead sealed:
- Covers of cable compartments in a container top part;
In Т50 model container a cable compartment is to be lead sealed.
As supplementary to according to the REGULATIONS of transporting goods by rail in special-purpose containers a number of lead seals, lock and seal devices and points of their installation are determined by a consignor. Safety valve is sealed upon adjusting and cycle testing thereof at the manufacturer’s works or upon inspecting or repairing thereof by a specialized repairing organization possessing a special permit for performing such works. Seals shall be removed from a safety valve only in the event of its failure or for adjusting operations.
On the back end frame of a container an emblem is
sticked and stainless steel tables are fixed containing the data on:
- a container;
- operation permit in accordance with the provisions of the International Convention for safe containers;
- a permit for conveying cargoes in lead-sealed containers in accordance with the provisions of the International Customs Convention.
The back dished end of a container should be applied data in the English language on:
- A maximum gross weight;
- A container curb weight;
- A container capacity.
The dished ends and lateral faces of a container should contain superscriptions in the form of special applications completed in accordance with Standard ISO 6346:1995: an owner code, a serial number and a container check number ; a specification symbol of a container type; a tank code. The top container surfaces and top beams of the end frames the following data should be applied: an owner code, a serial number and a container check number (on each end). When transporting hazardous goods a consignor should stick danger signs in accordance with the Regulations on transporting hazardous goods.
